- Neuse River
Foundation’s River Protection Program
In October 1980 a group of citizens concerned with pollution of the
Neuse River banded together to preserve and improve the Neuse. Thus
the Neuse River Foundation (NRF) was incorporated as one of the first
water quality groups in eastern North Carolina. This non-profit citizens’
group has continued to watch over and protect the Neuse River. In 1992
NRF adopted a concept as yet untried in the southeastern United States
- a Neuse Riverkeeper®. It was a success and today’s Riverkeepers®
monitor the Neuse for pollution sources, attract public attention, and
are a visible symbol of the NRF's presence on the river. Take a journey
down the river with NRF as you learn about the history of the program,
current activities, and solutions to keep the river healthy.

native wildlife, and sweeping views. Our effort to conserve natural
resources is dependent on meaningful donations and gifts like those
