Earth Share of North Carolina Makes it Easy to Protect North Carolina's Environment An exciting change has happened in the past year. The Environmental Federation is now known as Earth Share of North Carolina (ESNC). Founded in 1991, the Environmental Federation of North Carolina raised more than $3 million to protect North Carolina's environment. As Earth Share of North Carolina, the organization's mission is the same: to raise money through workplace giving campaigns to protect North Carolina's environment. As Earth Share of North Carolina, our campaign roster now includes environmental groups like the Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, the Land Trust Alliance and the National Audubon Society. Employees can still make a general contribution to ESNC to be shared equally among all groups or designate a gift to their favorite organizations. Most importantly, they will now have even more choices when it comes to protecting the environment. Ninety percent of North Carolinians when polled say they care about the environment, but many of them don't have time to get involved with environmental causes. Our goal is to make it easy for people to support the environmental group of their choice whether it's the Nature Conservancy or the Neuse River Foundation, says ESNC Executive Director Jill Lewis. As Earth Share of North Carolina we'll be better able to achieve that goal. We'll have more groups on our roster and participate in more campaigns. The result will be more money for North Carolina's environment. Some of the world's most respected companies now host Earth Share giving campaigns, including Pitney Bowes, Hewlett Packard, Sears Roebuck & Co., American Airlines, American Express, and Dell Computer. In North Carolina, Earth Share of North Carolina participates in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) and many municipal and private campaigns. A recent survey sponsored by Earth Share and focusing on employee attitudes towards corporate values and charitable giving revealed that 71 percent of the nation's employees gave to charities in 2000. In addition, unprecendented giving records to charities were set in 2001 due to September 11th. Employers and employees see Earth Share as an important part of corporate citizenship and good business. Katrina Neal, a Durham City solid waste administrator, says she is glad to have an environmental choice in her campaign. It's an important choice in the Seven Stars Campaign because the environment affects everyone. Rich or poor, black or white, it doesn't matter who you are. It's saving the earth for future generations. Click here to download this article. back to top |
